Check into an Energy Star hotel
Excerpt from EPA News Brief:
EPA's Fifteen Hot Tips for a Cool Summer
On average, America’s 47,000 hotels spend more
than $2,000 per available room each year on energy. Look for an
Energy Star certified hotel--they perform in the top 25 percent of
hotels nationwide, use an average of 35 percent less energy and emit
an average of 35 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than their peers.

BRWA Education Program Presents Watershed Model
For the second year in a row board member
Tammy Gilpatrick and volunteer Michelle Walsh presented the watershed
model program to four fourth grade classrooms at the H. P. Clough
Elementary School in Mendon.
Although it was the last week of school,
and extremely warm, the students were eager to help pollute the model
and brainstorm on ways homeowners can minimize pollutants that can
get swept up with runoff and deposited in local waterways. The
Watershed Model is a component of the BRWA “Watershed and Us”
Education Program.
Contact us at info@thebrwa.org
or 508-278-5200 for information on BRWA Watershed & Us programs for your school or youth organization.

Great Works Dam Removal
On June 11 work began on the removal of the Great
Works Dam on Maine’s Penobscot River. The Great Works dam removal is
the result of years of collaboration between the
Penobscot River Restoration Trust,
federal, state and local government, dam owners, and environmental,
business and cultural organizations.
The removal is a key component in the Penobscot River Restoration Project,
one of the biggest and most significant river restoration projects in the
nation. The removal of two dams combined with the installation of fish
passages will open access to 1,000 miles of habitat for Atlantic salmon
and other native sea-run fish and create recreational and economic
opportunities.

American Rivers website for details.
